AR-HUD Optical Waveguide Device
—
Nika Optics AR-HUD (Waveguide HUD) is a display technology based on optical waveguide principles, coupling light from microdisplays (such as LCD, LCoS, DLP, etc.) into the waveguide structure. Once inside, light propagates by total internal reflection with a loss of less than 5%. At the output end of the waveguide, a carefully designed coupling structure outputs the light and projects it into the driver’s eyes, achieving a borderless mixed-reality display effect. This is the core technical path for next-generation AR-HUD.

Using volume holographic gratings (VHG), it supports a large field of view (FOV) and a lightweight design, greatly reducing the need for bulky optical engines. It enables light to propagate and expand inside a compact waveguide device, eliminating multi-layer reflection structures, and providing users with a high-quality, low-cost,
large-size AR-HUD waveguide solution capable of lane-level AR navigation and real-time road condition labeling.
