AR Waveguide Lens
—
The AR waveguide lens is a key optical component in augmented reality (AR) devices.
Main Function: It guides and projects virtual information (such as text, images, videos, etc.) into the human eye, while allowing light from the real world to enter normally, enabling users to see both virtual and real-world content simultaneously.
Optical Principle: A waveguide is a medium that can transmit light within itself. The AR waveguide lens uses the principle of total internal reflection, similar to how optical fibers transmit light. Inside the waveguide, light propagates through multiple total internal reflections. The optical waveguide uses diffraction gratings to control light propagation. Gratings can produce different diffraction effects for different wavelengths of light. When light enters the diffractive optical waveguide, the grating diffracts the light, allowing it to propagate inside the waveguide. By carefully designing parameters of the grating, such as period and depth, the exit direction and position of light can be precisely controlled.
